If you want to sing well, you need singing exercises that will enhance your breathing and make the quality of sound you produce better. Most people do not know that the respiratory system needs exercise to optimize the ability of the breathing muscles. These muscles control your ability to inhale or exhale. When you breathe in, they push the stomach and the intestines ways to accommodate the air.

Most importantly, you need exercises that will help you to relax for effective use of the vocal cords. You can do this a few minutes before every session and your body will adapt to these with time. The muscles need to be under your control and this means relaxing all muscles of the body that may tense your vocal cords. For instance, clench the fist, hold for a minute and then relax. In addition, you need to involve singing exercises that will enhance the breathing. Do not draw your stomach in or it will constrict the ability of your diaphragm to function normally. Place your hands to the side and take in a long breath. Hold it for five minutes as you count in your head and then breathe out in slow tempo. Next, instead of breathing in, sing one note and hold it for as long as you can. This will work on your vocal cords and activate them before you start your rehearsal. Maintain a comfortable posture to enhance your exercise routine.

When you feel you are getting the vocal cords warmed up, you can sing the sol-fa ladder so that you can get the right ranges for all notes. Remember to keep your mouth open because you need to breathe efficiently and bring out the right notes. It is advisable to sing in the shower because the vocal cords need to be moist often or the dryness will damage them. When you practice these exercises in the shower, the moist air warms your vocal cords and makes the sound coming out soft to the ear.
